Starting a Live Session

How to Start a Live Session

A live session connects your slide deck to student devices so you can run polls, quizzes, and discussions in real time. Here is how to get one running.

Step 1: Open Your Deck

Navigate to the course that contains the deck you want to present. On the course Decks tab, find the deck and click Present. This creates a new live session and takes you into the presenter view.

Step 2: Share the Join Code

Every session gets a unique six-character join code displayed at the top of the presenter screen. Students go to quzi.app and type in the code. You can also display a QR code by clicking the QR icon in the presenter controls — students scan it with their phone camera to join instantly.

Step 3: Run Your Session

Advance through your slides with the arrow keys or on-screen controls. When you reach a slide with a question, click Start to open it for responses. A live counter shows how many students have answered. Close the question when you are ready to show results.

For peer instruction, Quizzibility uses the 30/70 rule to suggest whether to re-teach, start a peer discussion, or move on. See the Live Polling & Peer Instruction guide for details.

Step 4: End the Session

When you are finished, click End Session in the presenter controls. Students see a "Session ended" screen and the session moves to your history where you can review results.

Tips

  • Test beforehand — Open a session yourself to make sure your slides and questions look right. Use the Preview button in the editor to check animations without creating a session.
  • Keep the join code visible — Students who arrive late or lose their connection can rejoin with the same code as long as the session is active.
  • Monitor from your phone — Open the Monitor page from the session controls to manage questions from a second device.
